If your installed XP is still usable you can determine the product key that was used to install it by running XP Product Key Finder: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C. ....and in ME....
..... you can use Regedit to find the Key, - open regedit, and do a Find for 'ProductKey' - the result should be the ME product Key. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Ron Martell" wrote in message ... Yes. May I suggest you read them.
In addition: If you can boot to Win Me then you can recover your personal Win Me Product Key from the registry using a program such as Belarc Adviser or AIDA32 (http://www.aumha.org/downloads/aida32.zip) or by using Regedit and noting the data for the value ProductKey found at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion If you can't boot into Win Me but your hard disk hasn't been formatted then you can try recovering the Product Key as follows: a) Boot to DOS using a WinMe Startup Floppy and select 4) Minimal Boot b) At the A:\ prompt, type the following with a return after each line. The spaces are important. c: cd windows attrib -s -h system.dat edit system.dat Use Search | Find to find 'ProductKey' The key used to install Win Me should be to the immediate right of the string ProductKey and of the form XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP brianh wrote: -----Original Message----- What are my options if I've lost the packaging that my "original" disk came in? . i have the same problem did you have any suggestions? |
