Left hand side of the keyboard - shift lock or caps lock... Who knows? Maybe
it prevents you from entering the BIOS and double checking to ensure the
drive is recognized.

Have you tried another Floppy disk?

Is the drive too large to be recognised correctly by the BIOS? are you using
Drive overlay software for example?

Drive 1?

Boot drive would normally be Drive 0

You could use the CD-ROM to prepare the HD, just boot with your operating
system CD and follow the prompts.

altered in the BIOS. I have tried the floppy that i originally used to
partition and install the operating system, now that i want to practice
changing partitions and re-fomatting from the DOS prompt i am being refused
access.

Galen/Time Traveller, thanks for the help, got it solved. Finally got the
puter to accept a re-installation of the ME operating system and hey presto
it cleared the FDISK fault, the original installation must have corrupted it
somehow.
Cheers
