Uninstalling outlook express 5
I cancelled my Comcast internet access quite a while ago
but my Outlook Express still opens up under Comcast. How can I uninstall Outlook Express 5 and install Outlook Express 6? |

Installing Outlook Express has nothing to do with whether you use Comcast
or not. If you no longer wish to access a mail account at Comcast remove/delete that account. Tools | Account | Mail, select unwanted account and then click Remove. If you are still using Outlook Express 5.5 (Win Me does not run OE5) then this can be updated in the same way as much else - by visiting the Windows Update site (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/). Note though that you will first need to update IE5.5 to IE6 before you can update to OE6 although in most cases the IE6 upgrade will automatically include that for OE. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP [2001-2004] Tom wrote: I cancelled my Comcast internet access quite a while ago but my Outlook Express still opens up under Comcast. When I open up OE, it opens as Outlook Express 5, presented by Comcast. I have IE6, but I still can't remove OE5 and Install OE6. And OE5 does not work for me. |

It would help if you were to in future explain the actual problem
experienced which to those reading your post gave the impression that Outlook Express was attempting to access an unwanted Comcast account instead of which all you want to do is remove the Comcast branding from the top of Outlook Express. The branding makes no difference whatsoever to the operation of Outlook Express. For details of how to remove the branding from both Outlook Express and Internet Explorer see http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#debrand although you should note that this involves working with the registry and should only be undertaken if you fully understand the implications of what you are doing and the possible problems you might encounter and can cause but deleting or amending the wrong key or value.. Again if you didn't read my original message, you do not need to uninstall outlook express to install OE6. If you have IE6 and OE5.5 then download OE6 from the Windows Update site. Oh, also for the second time, Win Me does not have OE5 but rather OE5.5. If you do have OE5 installed and are running Win Me then you have real problems. :-) -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP [2001-2004] Tom wrote: .I never set up my Outlook Express account under Comcast so I can't delete it.
