why such a slow boot?
I cannot figure out why ME is so slow to boot. It isn't
loading a bunch of startup items (i don't think). Anyone know of rerasons, or good utilities to help this? Thanks! |

You may have a virus/spyware hijack
download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling viruses are not present on your PC http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe - update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files. Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the CoolWebSearch hijacker. http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html Use CWShredder, the removal tool: http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...CWShredder.exe http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from your system. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "jenniferesme" wrote in message ... If Noel's suggestions do not improve the situation then the next step is to do a logged boot and see what is actually causing the delays. Turn on the computer and press the Ctrl key as soon as the first information of any kind shows on the screen. Hold it down until the Windows Startup Menu appears and select the "logged - bootlog.txt" option. When the computer has finished booting up download the free bootlog analyzer program from http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/terrace/pk29/ and run it to check the bootlog.txt file you just created. Select the "Show delays" item to isolate just those items that took excessive time during the startup. Post the delays information back here if you need further advice or assistance.
