You'll see "Uninstallers" on the left side of the page......think that is
where I got it. I have attached the file, I guess that is okay. Guess it
wasn't okay, couldn't send it, 184K file. You could send your email to
Figgy, unless she already has it, I'll send the uninstaller to her.
Heirloom, old and you're a good man, Dave!

| David,
| I used the uninstall program offered by Adobe for removing Flash
8
| and earlier versions. It did, in fact, remove the flash8.ocx file. I
| checked, as thoroughly as I am able, and found nothing remaining after
using
| their uninstall. One word of caution to anyone installing the Flash 9,
| unless you want the Yahoo! Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it as part of the
| install!
| It is installed by default, unless you refuse it.
| Don't really know why I wanted the Flash 9, except that there
have
| been a number of sites I have wanted to look at recently that tell me I
need
| it to view the site.
| Heirloom, old and got it anyway
|

Thanx. Do you have a URL for this uninstaller ?

As for the Yahoo! toolbar. It and the Google Toolbar are barred on my
LAN. In my Domain
Login Script if they are found on the PC, they are summarily removed. The
same routine in
the Login Script is in the Qucktime and Flasg "fix" script just in case
the technician
failed to uncheck the Yahoo checkbox.

Found the installer and used it....thanks. It took out Flash 8, but I
can't get rid of 7.xxx. Tried to repair it and that was when it asked
for the ATI Catalyst Control Disc.....so it was added when this was
built.

I will download the newer one......but may try some sites without it
just to see how many want it. Seems I have Shockwave 10 on here.....yet
Firefox will ask for it at times as well. Who knows.....

Nite.....Figgs

Thanks David,

I realise that having raised the red flag about installing Flash 9 not
removing the previous version (although it does make it inactive) I should
have gone further and explained what was required to remove the files and
registry entries if still present. Thanks for filling in that gap in my
post.

Incidentally users installing Flash 9 might want to install earlier
versions that Flash 8, if still present, in this case replace flash8.ocx
by flash.ocx (earlier versions did not have the version number appended).

You can create a simple Batch file to remove Flash 8 after installing
.

@Echo off
regsvr32 /u /s %windir%\system32\macromed\flash\flash8.ocx
del %windir%\system32\macromed\flash\flash8.ocx

Thre is also a way to do it with MSIExec.exe such as...

start -- run
MsiExec.exe /X{CSLID #}

I just don't have the "CSLID #" handy :-(

BTW: I am in the process of mitigating vulnerabilities on my LAN
thanx to reports from Harris Stat.

Adobe Reader and Acrobat, Flash, Symantec, QuickTime are the vast
majority.

I have been simplifying the process using KiXtart scripts.

Yeah, no biggie.......the Figglet said she sent the file to you. You
probably found it before she sent it, anyway.

Yep, I sent it last night. And at your age, I am surprised it is only
your foot that hurts......LOL!!

Both my knees are now in major pain due to rain and
arthritis.....getting old is a *itch!! And the anti-inflammatory pills
work, but also give me stomach problems. Sigh......

Figglet, falling apart at the knees.
