upgrading to XP

put a new computer together,got a new motherboard,processor, DDram and tower.
used the old hard drive,CDrom and floppy.
formatted the hard drive and installed Windows me ,everything works
good,tried to upgrade it to XP it says setup is coppying the files necessary
for XP, then it says Windows is restarting your computer in 15 seconds.
The computer restarts and I see the white line at the bottom of the screen
filling up and then it says please wait, an tthis is as far as it goes.
tried it with windows 2000 pro which priviously had on the same hard drive
same thing,took the hard drive out and installed it in another computer went
through the whole thing and it works , put it back in the new computer it
does not work,but it is good with Windows ME and 98SE
any suggestions please

Since your problem is with installing XP and has nothing to do with Win Me
may I suggest you post your query to a newsgroup supporting the XP
operating system. However before doing so make certain that you have run
the Upgrade Adviser that is on the XP CD and made a note of and actioned
its recommendations before attempting any upgrade.

Well just wanted to stop by and drop some information
that might help. I had the same problem when i had Windows
XP. The computer did not recognized the Hard Disk. Try
checking your BIOS start up settings, sometimes by simply
restarting the PC a couple of times will get you in. The
other thing is, do you have both WINDOWS ME and XP
installed on your computer? If you have both of them
installed in one computer and only running on one hard
drive, you should partition the hard drive to two
partitions. one partition should be formated to FAT32
(WINDOWS ME) and the other should be NTFS(WINDOWS 2000/XP)
*Note that you can not access information from one
partition to another* Make sure that the start up log in
windows XP is correct.

I have no idea why you are replying to my post as I was not the person
having problems. But then again I don't really understand the relevance
of what you have to say to the apparent problems experienced by the
original poster.

For myself I happily multi-boot as required between various operating
systems including both Win Me and XP although in my case I use a third
party boot manager (BING).

I have no idea what you're talking about, I don't want ot use two operating
system on my computer I just want to upgrade it to XP???????????????

Why not try read all the posts since it is you who started the thread.
You would then see I was replying to Juan R. Since you seem to find that
difficult I will repeat the reply I made to YOUR original question:
