Default error messages

I recently had my spare computer rebuilt. It was a Dell, and I had grown =
tired of having to purchase Dell components , primarily the power switch =
and units as they seemed to be continually failing, and Dell had =
manufactured their machines to only allow the Dell replacement parts in =
some instances. Because the motherboard had to be replaced in order to =
use a different power switch I replaced it with an ASUS motherboard. I =
am still using my old ME operating system, I have updated it since the =
beginning, whenever a critical or security patch had been released, but =
my browser is Firefox. It had been Firefox before the rebuild and it =
never caused problems then, and I have a hard time thinking its causing =
any of this now.

My computer is now shooting me various error messages which it had never =
done in the past.....but the fault seems to always occur in a place with =
the number 0187.=20

The faults are Explorer faults.
One is: Kernel32.DLL 4.90.0.3000 fault 0187:bff61459
Another is: MSHTML.DLL fault 0187:04cb6416
Another is: Shell32.DLL at 0187:7fco88dl

I've tried to troubleshoot the various error messages, I reinstalled IE6 =
and its components, and I still can't figure out where the 0187 file is =
located, what it is and/or what to do to replace or repair it.... The =
worst thing happening with my machine now is that I cannot move files =
within a folder into a sub folder without the kernel32 error occurring. =
I must turn off my virus protection in order to move any files at all. =
My virus program is AVG 7 , which is now causing issues. AVG 6 worked =
fine but I was forced to upgrade. I tried turning off the firewall to =
see if that were causing problems, but it didn't seem to make any =
difference. My firewall is Zone Alarm Pro.

I do nightly maintenance using AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spy =
Sweeper and Window Washer, CWShredder, NoAdware, Spyware Blaster is =
always running, I also use Window Cleaner, and X Cleaner, and check the =
registry twice, first with Registry Mechanic and then again using =
Registry Healer. I've checked Hijack This for anything that might have =
appeared out of the ordinary but nothing has turned up. =20

Any information as to what I can do to restore my old system back to its =
usual self would be very much appreciated, and any recommendations as to =
a different virus protection program that would be more compatible with =
my ME machine would also be appreciated. Norton has eaten me alive in =
the past, so I can't use that product, but I don't know if there is one =
that might be more compatible than my present set up.=20

Thank you in advance
Bev

Don't know if the 0187 is too relevant but the only '0187' error message on
the KB for WinMe is the following :-
"You receive an "Error: 0E:0187:Bff8e64b" error message when you edit or
select text in a Visio 2002 drawing"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;323449

However, you've omitted the error's prefix, e.g. OE or 0E etc.,

Try "ERROR: OE" or "ERROR: OD" Error Message When You Start Windows Me or
When You Use Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;308366

You *might* find some help there.

Might even be worth disconnecting from the net for a while (at least until
you've fixed it!) and throwing off some of the many 'extras' and/or
reinstalling hardware (typically your video drivers) in an attempt to
localise the problem. You 'appear' to have eliminated virus/malware.

Thank you Mart for the links. I'll go and have a look and see if it can =
help the problems I'm experiencing. I'll take better notes on the error =
messages if the links you sent don't remediate my present situation.... =
and will repost them exactly as written down. As to Visio 2002 =
drawing....what on earth is that?? Of late, this machine never ceases =
to amaze me )
