Default Change Windows password

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have a Windows Me computer that is joined to a WIndows 2000 domain. I
can log on to the domain as a regular domain user, and access network
shares. But right after I log on to the domain using domain
credentials, I'm prompted for a Windows password. I don't know what the
password is, so I just click Cancel, and my Desktop then comes up.

I'd like to change the password, but I don't know the old Windows
password to be able to change to a new one.

Is there any way to either reset the old password, or stop the
prompting for the Windows password?

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Donna,

See MS KB 152104 - "How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me
Logon Prompt at Startup" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=152104).

Basically you need to change to using Windows Logon in Control Panel |
Network. Then when you next log on don't enter a password (leave blank)
and click OK. If you've already allocated a password, logon and then
delete or better rename the password file in the Windows folder - this is
a file whose name is your logon name with a pwl extension.

Don't click Cancel or Escape as this will mean that you don't log on and
are instead what is called the Default User which means you won't be able
to save passwords and have access to certain features.

Default Change Windows password

Thanks Mike, but I still have a problem.

The domain user account is getting locked out every few hours. I think
it may be because of the Windows Me computer trying to access a share
with cached network credentials.

When I click on Map Network Drive, and I click the drop-down box for
previously mapped shares, I see a share which is no longer a mapped
drive. I can't see a way to delete that share as a choice in the drop
down list, and I think that I should delete it, because maybe there are
some incorrect cached credentials stored somewhere within Windows Me,
trying to map that drive.

Where can I find where Windows Me stores cached credentials, to purge
or delete the cache?
