Default The Explorer Fault Recovery

I read the hints about the computer failing to start windows cause of a
Explorer Fault and after trying ProgMan and WinFile change in System.ini
without success then tried ScanReg /restore at the DOS Prompt and chose a
date prior to which Started AOK and then the computer passed the login AOK
but I lost MSN Messenger and some of t he LNK's had been changed and several
program EXE's could not be found on booting asking me to replace there
location with some other program not relative and then the Icons in the Start
Menu I had setup for small had all turned large and I had to reset that
again. After several glitches were fixed the program went online AOK and is
still online and running well. My Windows 98 SE seemed to have some sort of
sickness and almost couldn't recover from it and scanning for any virus
turned up nothing. All the problems occurred after a bad shutdown, our power
went off and the machine then failed to pass login popping up the Explorer
error with a blue screen. I'm happy now so What was this glitch that others
might look out for. The programs Windows tried to change are LDMConf.exe to
C:\windows\bwUnin-6.1.4.36-8876480L.exe cause windows did not know where to
find LDMConf.exe file. The other WinCinemaMgr.exe to C:\Program
Files\Quicklink III\QL.exe far from accuracy. Restoring the Registry work
AOK. I also found in Autoexec.bat a glitch on the SBPCI Sound Card Program
SET Location which appeared as scrammbled hogwash text matter which I removed
during the DOS run before the Registry fix during one of the attempts to
change the Shell= line in system.ini and that I thought was the problem but
it was not as the system still did not pass the login even if I were to
Escape the login nothing loads and the system stopped. The computer is a HP
Pavilion Pentium III with two 30 GB hard drives and more than 512 MB Memory.

"What was this glitch that others might look out for."

It appears that the basic problem is that you are running your computer
without using an uninterrupted power supply (UPS), also called a battery
backup. Power surges, brown outs and total loss of power are tough on
computers. By using an UPS, you are protected from these things and in the
case of a power loss, you have a given amount of minutes to properly shut
down the PC.
