Display Property tabs unreadable
My young son tells me he was exploring the "Display Properties" on our
computer that runs 98SE nad has a Geforce 256 DDR graphics card. Now I can't read the tabs on the "Display Properties" or the menus in Microsoft Word or the menus in Intenet explorer. Presumably he has made some text the same color as the menu background. In Word and explorer I can read the menus as I move the cursor over the menu, but they disappear again once I move the cursor away. I have gone into "Display Properties" and tried setting a predefined scheme but this hasn't brought back the tab or menu wording. I've looked at the individual settings but I cant find a setting that will make this text readable. Any help gratefully accepted regards Chris |

The upper half shows examples of window-elements. Click on the suspect display-element (a menu, a menu selected item etc.) and options will change in the lower half. popup-lists should alow you to change the colors of texts, backgrounds and whatever you need. Yea. It's possible to mess up colors/font sizes/etc., AND reverting to
Windows Standard may not resolve all of it. | Now I can't read the tabs on the "Display Properties" or the menus in | Microsoft Word or the menus in Intenet explorer. I guess try a new Theme, as it may be more comprehensive than a Scheme... To install Desktop Themes, if they are not already in the Control Panel or in the START menu... 1. START, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup tab. 2. Check "Desktop Themes"; click "Details"; check the themes you want; "OK" twice. 3. Perhaps, re-boot. Some themes require "high color". To get "high color": 1. Right click the Desktop & select Properties 2. Click the "Settings" tab 3. Use the "Colors" dropdown menu to select "high color" 4. Be prepared. It may ask your permission to restart the computer. I understand that's best; however, it can also be done at: "R-Clk Desktop, Properties, Appearance tab, & select a different 'Scheme' in the dropdown selector". This will also get the fonts, colors, et al, right, across applications, without trying to micro-manage inside the "Item" dropdown menu, which one may live to regret. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "tmp4" wrote in message ... | My young son tells me he was exploring the "Display Properties" on our | computer that runs 98SE nad has a Geforce 256 DDR graphics card. | | Now I can't read the tabs on the "Display Properties" or the menus in | Microsoft Word or the menus in Intenet explorer. | | Presumably he has made some text the same color as the menu background. | | In Word and explorer I can read the menus as I move the cursor over the | menu, but they disappear again once I move the cursor away. | | I have gone into "Display Properties" and tried setting a predefined scheme | but this hasn't brought back the tab or menu wording. If the problem is less than five days old, try restoring the Registry from a date
just prior to when the problem occurred. Windows uses Scanreg to back up the Registry each day that the computer is started or restarted. To restore to a previous day's Registry reboot to DOS mode and run Scanner with the restore switch. Here are 3 different ways of restoring the Registry: -On the Start Menu, click Shut Down Restart in MS-DOS Mode. At the Windows prompt, type: scanreg /restore and hit Enter. -Start the computer, and hold down the CTRL key while the computer is booting until you get the boot menu (Win98 Startup Menu). Use the arrow keys to highlight Command Prompt Only and hit Enter. At the C: prompt, type: scanreg /restore and hit Enter. -Boot with the W98 boot diskette, choose "without CD-ROM support". Type the following at the DOS prompt, hitting Enter after each line: At the A: prompt, type: C: CD Windows\Command scanreg /restore In the Restore screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the backup with the date you wish to use, and hit Enter. The backups are in CAB files with names in this format: Rb###.cab Do not use one named Rbbad.cab -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "tmp4" wrote in message ...
