Default Can't upgrade to Windows 2000

I'm trying to upgrade my system to windows 2000, but
during the upgrade process I receive a Winnt32 error
screen...

"Winnt32 caused an invalid page fault in module
kernel32.dll at 01bf:bff8836d"

I've turned off all anti virus programs (McAffe) and all
unneeded programs and tried the upgrade again and still
the same error?

I start up windows 98, pop-in the 2000 upgrade cd and
select to upgrade. It runs through a few promts and
product key page and I select to use NTFS file system and
it starts checking system files and about 90% through this
process the error screen comes up? Any ideas what's going
on. I don't want to have to do a clean install. I'd like
to keep my programs.

Win98 is in a 32bit format and trying to
upgrade and go to NTFS format might be
asking a for a lot and causing the problem.

Windows 2000 questions are best asked in a Windows 2000 newsgroup. Yes, I
know you're upgrading but the fault is in the Windows 2000 installer, not in
Windows 98.
