Default Downloads into Wordpad format

When I download applications, they are opening up in
Wordpad and I can not use this. How do I change this from
the default? Example, tried to download upgrades of
Acrobat and Netscape, they both opened in Wordpad
Thanks

What is the filename extension of the downloaded files? It seems that you
are double-clicking the files to open them. Instead, open the application
that they are designed for (eg, WinZip if they are ZIP files) and then use
the File / Open menu option to access the files. Once you have confirmed
that the application is appropriate for the file type you can change the
association.
