Default unable to display language indicator on taskbar

MY os is Win98, and I use MS Office97 SBE with Word97, and
my normal keyboard is English (United States 101). I
installed a second keyboard language, Romanian, and
checked the "enable indicator on taskbar", APPLY, OK. I
closed the window, rebooted, but no language indicator on
the taskbar. The second language works fine with left
Shift+ALT, just no indicator. I tried this several times,
removed the second language, rebooted, then reinstalled it
with the "enable indicator.." checked and APPLY, OK ,
close, reboot, again. No help. The language installs and
works fine, but no language indicator on taskbar.
It is not like I cannot live with this situation, just
that I have to type a few characters in Word to find out
which keyboard language I am in. But the indicator would
be nice.
Any ideas anyone?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and consider

I dunno, Bill, but take a look at this thread:

Although it is about this problem in Windows 2000, there are some clues, Office,
that may help you.
