Okay, I'll just put up with it until I get XP. Thanks for all the efforts.

Hey Eileen - what happened between 1st April and now? Given up??

Jeez, been working overtime here - so much so that following a call of
nature (in the middle of the night!), when I sometimes look to see if
there's an further posts, I now realise that we're not even allowed time off
g

But, you didn't fully respond to my earlier points of yesterday (5th April),
nor to David and Georges comments.

E.G. Any further progress with the copy/change font name exercise?

I haven't had time to change the name of the font. Thanks, Eileen

Forgive me again for a new post on an old problem. David & Mart are so
right. I got the new software for the HP PhotoSmart Scanner, installed
it
and still have the same problem. I even un-installed Ad-aware before
installing this update.

HP called me and said that my FONTS Folder is corrupted and I should call
Microsoft to repair it. Or I could do it myself by deleting the contents

of
the Fonts Folder and copying from another PC that has ME and copying it
to
my Folder.

I don't know about this. What do you say.

Thanks, Eileen

Mart,
I tried to copy Tahoma.ttf and couldn't. All I can do is move it to another
folder, so that won't work.

Eileen, I presume that you meant "Paste" and not "Move" to another folder.

If so, then re-name it in that other folder, then copy and paste it back to
the font folder

(Be sure that you've made a safe copy of the original symbol.ttf - just in
case!)

To be honest, I am clutching now - I think your system's registry and font
set-up is very badly corrupted/damaged and begin to doubt whether it is
'repairable' without some delicate surgery - not easily done by remote
control.

As I asked earlier, "Is a clean install completely out of the question?"

You *may* get away with a re-install (over-install) - has to be worth a try
before a clean install -but I don't really think that it will repair the
damage that you've got. - Law of diminishing returns!

Or, live with it g

Well.......I now have changed and moved just about everything that looks
*changeable and moveable*.....the test will be when I reboot. And that
scares the heck out of me, grin.

This computer has not been turned off for more than 2 days....something I
never do. But I will bite the bullet sometime and do it.

Noel.....I took a look via the JV Tools Registry Cleaner and you have no
idea how many programs have those blasted Image Zone Express keys in
them.....it is incredibly INVASIVE!!!! Keep that thought tucked in the back
of your teeny mind, ok?? (VBG)

If this reboot goes OK, I will remove them. I have found folders all over
this durned computer with bits and pieces from that stupid program. And I
blasted HP yesterday.....not that it will do any good!!

Hope you are feeling OK.....missed you when I was picking my way thru the
minefield of useless XP folders, etc. So did what I thought was OK....we
shall see. Tried to con Majik into coming up here and fixing it....didn't
work. He prefers the Hills of Kentucky to the Great White North!! (G)

YAHOO!! Got my Quick Launch Tool Bar back......making just a tad of
progress here. When you get your head together, I will run some stuff by
you.

I have been studying that added hidden file intensely and I moved the

Quick
Launch Folder from it to the proper original *Application Data*

one.....and
voila....with some fiddlin', got it back.....so I now have a half-assed

idea
of what I have to do with this particular extra folder and

subfolders....but
not about to get too aggressive until I back up some of my latest stuff.

But trying that little thing and having it work made me realize I sort of
understand what I have to do....if that makes any sense. (G) If the two
folders were identical, that would be easy....but they aren't. So I am
picking my way thru it. Most of it is from the failed install. But some

of
the subfolders are current. Comprendez??

Cheers.....a slightly relieved Figgs

This program definitely has some major problems - I just loaded it into

an
ME VPC, and the program opens with not a word visible - and freezes. It

then
updates itself.....
The updater then updates itself..... ( and that's a 4.2MB download!! -

the
dang program in the first place was only 5.5MB!!) - and then says that

there
are no updates available for anything on the system.
However, I can't see any effects (yet) outside the program itself.

I am truly baffled......but I had other problems on here before the
download.....I have a lot of XP folders from a failed upgrade. So

perhaps
I
was more vulnerable to the bad stuff!!

Odd that you and I both downloaded that blasted program. I have

removed
it,
but the Zone Image Express is right there in the middle of where my OE
emails were.....so grasping at straws here. I thought perhaps it just
might
provide a clue to Mart.

Good luck....I am still sorting the mess out on here. Other than that
download, nothing else new was on here.

Cheers....Heather

Mart,
I meant 'move'. Since the Font Folder wouldn't let me copy Tahoma, I put
Symbol back in the Font Folder. I need a break from this problem. Was busy
all day today and going shopping all day tomorrow and will be back sometime
over the weekend. This post is getting so long, when I come back do you want
me to start a new post of stick with this one?
Thanks, Eileen
