problem changing display resolution
I have a Dell laptop running Windows 98. In the display properties box,
when I can change my resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768. But instead of repainting the icons smaller and squeezing more onto a fixed expanded desktop, the icons remain the same size, and the desktop just "expands" beyond what is viewable at one time. In other words, the whole thing can't actually be viewed all at one time. To view the entire desktop, one has to "scroll" the mouse to one side or the other, toward top and bottom to "survey" the whole desktop. I'd rather all the icons shrink but be able to see the whole desktop at once, fixed in one place. I've searched around the display properties window as well as the Device Manager for some switch or box to uncheck to make this annoying characteristic go away...all to no avail. The display is given in the Display Manager as a NeoMagic MagicMedia256AV. Does anyone know how to get my computer to just expand my resolution on a fixed desktop, without putting it into this crazy mode wherein the desktop appears to slide around as you move the mouse around the displayed edges? I'd greatly appreciate the help... -Pam |
