Renaming ptudfapp
I have a problem with Ptudfapp error messages being
generated when I start my PC, and it has been recommended that I rename Ptudfapp.exe to Ptudfapp.old. I know how to boot my PC into DOS, but don't know how to find or rename this file. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. |

Could you please set out the correct steps for me again? Alrighty now, doing a web search via Google, I got this: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PTUDFAPP.EXE Now let's do this, assuming you have 98/98SE: ---------------CUT--------------- ::PTUDKILL.bat :: CD C:\Windows\System REN PTUDFAPP.EXE PTUDFAPP.EXE ---------------CUT--------------- In the above between the cut lines copy the lines but not including them and paste into Notepad or whatever plain text editor you have. Save and name the file "PTUDKILL.bat" include the quotes. Save it to C:\Windows\Command directory. If the Autoexec.bat file has C:\Windows\Command listed in the PATH then you can execute the batch from anywhere, if not you have to be where the batch is located. If the command directory is not listed in Autoexec, then you may have to reboot once you add the path, THEN boot to DOS and depending on what you named it, I'd suggest PTUDKILL, but however, you named the file, just type it and hit Enter, it isn't necessary to add the extension at the end. Below is my Autoxec.bat so you can see how: ************** ::Prompt $e[1;32;40mYou are he$_ $e[1;37;40m$P$_$e[1;32;40mHow may I help you $e[1;31;40m? $e[1;33;40m Prompt $e[44;33;1m Location: $e[44;37;1m$P$_$e[44;33;1m Date: $e[44;37;1m$D $T$_$e[44;33;1m Command $G$e[44;36;1m @C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6\bootup.exe PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\PROGRA~1\WIN98RK; %PATH%;D:\DOS\Batch;C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6 C:\essolo.com ************** CD Command ======================= ======================= Displays the name of or changes the current directory. Scott,
Just do this...it is pretty simple: Boot to MS-DOS Mode, and at the command prompt, type the following, then press Enter: REN c:\windows\system\ptudfapp.exe ptudfapp.old That is: REN space c:\windows\system\ptudfapp.exe space ptudfapp.old When the command prompt returns, restart back to Windows. If you booted to DOS from the Start menu Shutdown Restart in MS DOS Mode, restart Windows by typing EXIT, and then press Enter. If you booted to DOS any other way, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Scott Walker" wrote in message ... While I have my doubts that LZEXPAND is the cause of the error, you can extract a
new copy from your Windows CD (or from the .cab file location on your hard drive), using the "Extract one file" option of System File Checker (SFC).
