Default Device 2570 (Processor to I/O Controller) Resource Conflict

Hello,

My configuration: P4 (2.66 GHz/512MB/533 MHz) with the i865PE and ICH5R
chipsets (installed with Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
6.3.0.1007);
OS: Win98se (fully updated).

The automatic setting option was used throughout hardware installation.

The following resource conflict is reported by Device Manager:
"Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to I/O Controller - 2570"
'This device causes resource conflict (Code 15)' - 'this memory range is
used by Intel 82801 PCI Bridge - 244E'.

Both devices - '2570' and '2571' (Processor to AGP Controller) have been
installed with the aid of the same INF file (865.inf), via Intel Chipset
Software Installation Utility, and one of them doesn't cause conflicts with
the PCI Bridge 244E and the other does.

My questions a
- Can Processor to I/O Controller function correctly without having memory
range assigned, or assigned improperly?
- Does Processor to I/O Controller really need memory assigned (generally
and not only for my chipset & processor)?

Thanks,
Andrew

Have you updated the chipset drivers from the Intel site??
Have you updated the AGP drivers?

I have that code 15 on "System board extension for ACPI BIOS", & as far back as I can recall. I went hunting for a cure a few times. Click the Resources tab for yours in Device Manager. If it says "No conflicts" in the "Conflict Device List", then the Troubleshooter screens will say it's NOT really a problem....

"START button, Help, Troubleshooting, Windows 98 Troubleshooters, Hardware Conflict", or
http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/tshoot
This too is the Troubleshooters. But, if neither work, post back for a cure.

I've been content with that knowledge. Really, it seems to be a harmless condition, & the only suggested cure I recall was to "Remove" all manner of items in Device Manager, reboot, & pray it all comes back at least back to the harmless "No conflict" state it had before. You'd better have drivers on hand to feed the thing! And blame Blanton or Terhune for any further mishap!

You will notice "Control Panel, Add New Hardware, Next, Next" will show that item in it's window. Go ahead... highlight it, & click "Next" again if you dare. It will fail to fix it, but did me no additional harm. Be prepared to reboot, meaning all other apps should be closed first.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
