Default Scan Disk

Hi, i am currently using Windows 98. When i am using Scan
Disk to scan my hard drive for errors, i get the following
message:

ScanDisk has now restarted 10 times because windows or
another program has been writing to this drive.

How do i solve this problem?

This happens when i select "THROUGH" type of test.

Can anyone guide me.

The easiest/best way to ensure success, besides turning
off/stopping all applications is to boot to safe mode,
either get TweakUi from Microsoft and on the Boot tab check
the box that says always show boot menu, or reboot and hold
the CTRL key. Then make sure your screensaver is turned
off.

Go to Control Panel and look at a program called "Fast Find".

For a long time I thought my computer had a virus, because of the amount of
disk activity with not apparent cause.

I asked about it, and people advised me to reformat my hard drive and all
kinds of things, until after receiving much misleading advice, someone
identified the culprit.
