Why doesn't Windows Update work for you, darkrats?

Well one can always contact Microsoft, MM and see if they can help you.
Microsoft has been kind to me and I find it unfortunate that so many people
have trouble with their products.

The update isn't listed in the Catalog for Win98/98SE, but it *is*
listed for Windows ME. Whether the ME version will install to Win98/98SE
is open to investigation by some enterprising soul--perhaps yourself?
(Just inspecting the version you have from your TIF folder and that
listed for ME should show whether they are identical.)

Yes, the one time I did speak with them they were very polite and
helpful-- it was some hotfix you had to phone in for-- there was a bunch
of hoopla over it in here about a year or so ago. But anyway, the fellow
even stayed on the phone to verify I received the file in the email and
it opened up fine.

But, there was nothing they could help me with over the phone this time-
the file I needed was sitting in my TIF folder. They must have known
what I needed before I even asked. Talk about service!

From MS05-014:

quote
Are Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition
critically affected by one or more of the vulnerabilities that are addressed
in this security bulletin?

Yes. Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition
are critically affected by the vulnerabilities that are addressed in this
security bulletin. Critical security updates for these platforms are
available, are provided as part of this security bulletin, and can be
downloaded only from the Windows Update Web site.
/quote

Let me repeat: "Critical security updates for these platforms...can be
downloaded only from the Windows Update Web site."

Can someone please direct me to the latest cumulative update for IE6SP1
for 98?

Update 867282 MS05-014

I'm really in need of a manual download link for this, not through Windows
Update.

Thanks.

Ouch to your AOL users on dial-up. Cox Cable is so nice and I am so thankful
for it. It does not go slowly like dial-up and does not have the time-outs
that plagued me with Sprint DSL.

Actually, Netzero has surpassed AOL in the wrong areas. Just too darn
slow. Probably because they're constantly downloading a new video ad for
you to watch the next time you're waiting (and waiting) to logon to
their "service". Did you ever notice it always takes as long (or longer)
to logon to Netzero as the video-ad takes to complete? Probably just a
coincidence, huh?
