lost icon recycle bin

have lost icon from desktop for recycle bin so am unable
to restore deleted files since uninstalling norton
utilities. I still have recycled folder to which deleted
files are sent but they show as a file starting Dc. but I
cannot restore from there. please advise if this can be
repaired without having to install windows again as I do
not want to overwrite all updates that I have downloaded

You could use the lowest Recycle Bin showing in the left
pane of Windows Explorer instead of the desktop icon. It
sounds as if you should reboot to DOS mode and do
deltree c:\recycled
deltree d:\recycled
deltree e:\recycled
for each partition that you have. When you reboot back into
Windows, Windows will rebuild the Recycle Bin but in order
for it all to look and work right one should then also toss
something away to the Bin and then empty it. Once that is
all done and you have the proper the icons in the left pane
of Windows Explorer again, you can right click the lowest
one again and choose to make a shortcut which will have as
it's default location, your desktop. And that should restore
you desktop Recycle Bin icon. Any joy?
