ipconfig
The 98SE has two adapters - the one for the internet is TCP/IP Dial-up adapter - the one for the wireless system is TCP/IP Linksys Wireless - G USB Network Adapter. When both are set to obtain an IP address automaticially, I can use internet explorer and outlook express, but the network does not work. When the dial-up is set to automatic and the wireless is set to Specify an IP address, 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0, the network works, I can connect to the ISP but internet explorer says pages cannot be displayed and Outlook express cannot find the host. Thanks -----Original Message----- In article 8b8701c4966b$7c005480 , "Chuck" wrote: I am using linksys WUSB54G network adapters in a peer to peer network between a XP pro and 98SE computer. The wireless network requires a specified IP address, but my ISP server requires an automatic assigned address. I can do this on the XP but it appears to be mutually exclusive on the 98SE machine. When I make the change in control panel / network / TCP/IP wireless it also applied to the ISP connection. How can I setup both a specified and automated IP address on the 98SE? How many network adapters does the 98SE computer have? There's a wireless adapter for the peer network. What adapter does the ISP connection use? Each network adapter has its own TCP/IP configuration, and changes to one adapter don't affect another adapter. To help others understand the situation, please reply in the news group with a copy of the 98SE TCP/IP configuration. Open a command prompt window, enter this line: ipconfig /all ipconfig.txt and copy/paste the contents of the "ipconfig.txt" file into the message. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups.
