Default backup error message

While trying to restore my old backed up files, stored on a cd, the win98
backup wizard starts, reads and locates the file then after a few secounds
gives me an error message "The current media does not contain any backup
sets. The operation will be canceled" I looked everywhere in Microsoft for an
answer to this problem without luck. Can anyone help me? These files were
saved by wizard prior to re-formatting my drives and re-installing win98, now
when i want to restore, this happens.
Thanks

When you look at the files stored on the CD with Explorer, what files are
listed?
