Default Excel 2000 recently used files

Win98SE, Excel 2000. When I doubleclick on an XL file in Windows Explorer, it
opens in Excel, but it doesn't get added to the list of recently used files.
This is a new misbehaviour. Can it be fixed. (Files opened in XL using the
"Open" dialog DO get added to the recently used files list.)

Thank you for your right-on answers to my two previous questions, which
solved three problems!

If an .XLS associated file is opened by d/clicking,
Excel normally ignores it.
If you use File Open command, the file will be listed.
Also most of cleaning utilities will also delete the all
recently used files.
Also check Tools Options General Tab
(Recently used files list)

Hi, AAH-

I don't believe the first part of your answer is correct. Excel used to add
such files to the "recently used files" list until recently. Furthermore,
Word still does add files opened by doubleclicking to that list, and the
behaviour should be the same in both programs.

Try by using the command File Save
'Save As' will overwrite the file and will list it.

Oh, now I see: I have to "save as" instead of just "save". Yes, that works.
Thank you very much! (Not the same in Word, though. They used to work the
same.)

Excel 97 Help topic states

Recently used files check box

"Note Only files you open and save after you select the check box are
listed on the File menu."

It should work with "Save" command as well.
Might be some component of Excel may be required
to re-install it. It works fine with Excel 5. Mine Excel 97
is not fully installed with all components.
