Default Tweaking the properties of a MS Word document

Hello!

We all know that when we save a MS Word document (version 2003
onwards) and then right-click to view it's properties, we generally
find the following parameters : Location, Size, Size on disk, Created,
Modified, Accessed etc.

Now my question is simply this: is it possible to tweak the values of
the above-mentioned parameters either from the registry or by using
any third party softwares?

Please illuminate me with your replies?

Bye.

It's not just Word created files.

You can't change the location, or size on disk without moving or
altering the file. Filesize, created, modified and accessed are kept in
the file's directory entry's attributes.

Why are you asking about MS-word 2003 and higher, in a windows-98 group?

I don't even think that word 2003 can be installed on windows 98.

And what makes MS-word document files any different than any other type
of file when it comes to it's various properties (location, size,
created, etc) ?

If you're asking if there's a utility that can change the properties of
a file (like creation date), there are utilities to do that:

http://www.attributemagic.com/

http://www.petges.lu/download/ac.exe

http://pcwin.com/downloads/Modify-File-Date.htm

http://www.softlist.net/products/change_file_time.html

I don't know which of the above (if any) run on Windows 98. I wouldn't
think you can change or alter the File Size or Size on Disk or Location
data and make those properties different than they actually are.

Are you trying to do some detective work? Is this for a court case, and
you're looking to dispute the file date and time on a file that is a
piece of evidence?

1. Generally no. These properties are unique to individual data files
of the same type. Registry keys refer to non-data files (e.g. DLLs) but
treat each type of data file uniformly (i.e. treat all data files of the
same
type in a uniform way.)

2. The Win98 NG is concerned with the Win98 OS. MS Word is
now a part of MS Office, for which there are specialist NGs, where
you can get specific advice. E.g. another respondent recommended
microsoft.public.office.developer.com.add_ins

To me, that _sounds_ as if you're right-clicking in Windows Explorer, in
which case it applies to just about any file type, not just .doc files.

Now my question is simply this: is it possible to tweak the values of

Well, location is where it is: the only way you can alter that is by
moving the file! Similarly size is its size, and size on disc is size
rounded up to the nearest whole cluster, which is a property of the disc
you're using (strictly, of how the disc is formatted), so you can't
change that either.

The created/modified/accessed _dates_ are something that _can_ be
modified: I'm not sure how reliably all three are even stored in '9x,
but anyway there are third-party utilities that let you fiddle with
them. (IIRR, the date/time is actually quantised in two-second
increments, or something like that.)

There are other properties which _are_ specific to individual files of
various types - for Word documents, the creator's initials for example -
but the ones listed above by the OP are generic to all files. (I daresay
there may well be utilities that can tweak some or all of those = and/or
Word itself may be able to.)

2. The Win98 NG is concerned with the Win98 OS. MS Word is

The above-listed properties aren't, as I've said, particular to Office
documents. (Having said that, I'm not sure whether the 2003 version of
Office runs under '9x - but if all you want to play with are the
creation etc. dates as shown under properties in Windows Explorer, you
can certainly do that to any such files that find their way onto a '9x
system, even if you can't actually open them in the right version of
word, if my suspicion is right that O03 might not run under '9x.)
