Three printers, only one can be seen over network.
I have a PC with Win98SE connected to three printers -- all of which
work. However, my networked PC running Win XP Pro can only see and print to one of them (a HP 820Cse on LPT2). It's printer dialog listbox does not show the other two printers. 1) Brother Laser MFC 9600 on LPT1. 2) HP LaserJet 1012 on USB. How might I make all the printers accessible from the networked computer? Stan Hilliard |

Three printers, only one can be seen over network.
Not all printers can be shared on a network, especially inexpensive printers
that use "host-based" printing (probably the LaserJet 1012) or "all in one" type printers (the Brother MFC). Check the documentation and/or the support web sites of the manufacturers for clues. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * NEW! Check the documentation and/or the support web sites of the manufacturers for clues. I determined that Brother sells a network card for the MFC9600 so I assume that printer will not network without it. I did a test with a third (laptop) computer, running with Win XP home and connected to the other two computers by a wireless Netgear MR814 router. The laptop can print to both the HP 820Cse on LPT2 and the HP LaserJet 1012 on USB. The laptop's print dialog took about 5 minutes to switch to the appropriate printer. The printing itself was fast once the right printer was selected. This may indicate another issue in setting up the laptop. I infer from this that other networked computer (running Win XP Pro) would be able to print to the HP LaserJet 1012 under the right condition. Stan Hilliard |
