Default How to use Windows ME Bootdisk?

im trying to install ME On a friends computer. downloaded the OEM version
from Bootdisks .com. when i start the floppy, it asks if i want to start with
or without cd-rom support. i pick option 2 to start with cd-rom support. It
loads the oakly driver and the virtual ramdrive and all the dos stuff. then
it goes to the A: prompt. What command or commands do i type in in order to
start the setup procedure for the ME cd? Thanlks Paul

Assuming your CD-ROM becomes the E: drive (it will tell you on screen during
the floppy booting process) then a the A: prompt, type "E:" (no quotes and
press Return) and the A: prompt will become an E: prompt. Then type
"setup" (no quotes then press Return)

Do you mean Enter? Plus when we did put in setup, we got a message stating only that setup requires so many kbs of drive space but no other action as far as setup for ME!? Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, yes Return (or 'carriage return' from typewriter days) = Enter.
Just be sure to confirm the (temporary) designation of your CD-ROM which
will show on the 'scrolling' DOS screen just before the floppy settles down
with the A: prompt. N.B this temporary drive letter is not necessarily the
same letter as you normally expect.

Just to recap :-

" Assuming your CD-ROM becomes the E: drive (it will tell you on screen
during
the floppy booting process) then a the A: prompt, type "E:" (no quotes and
press Return) and the A: prompt will become an E: prompt. Then type

What letter was allocated to your CD-ROM and what happened when you tried to
change the A: prompt to the allocated letter? Did you get (e.g.) E:
prompt?

If so did you type "setup" (no quotes) or "install" as you've mentioned?

At the CD-ROM letter prompt (e.g. E:) type "dir" (no quotes) and press
Return. Do you see a listing of the WinMe CD root folder?

Default How to use Windows ME Bootdisk?

OK, first question :-

Is your WinMe CD an MS Retail version or an OEM version?

got invalid media type error
message again.

Worrying! - faulty CD perhaps?

If it is an MS version, there should be a file called "setup.exe" in the
root folder of the CD. Therefore type "setup" (no need for the .exe part)
and it *should* fire-up into life.

I'm not sure where you're getting "install" from - unless you have an OEM
CD - in which case, all bets are off! You should not be trying to run
either an "install" or ".inf" file. (the .inf file is purely for autoplaying
the WinMe demo tasters when running Windows - not installing it. (Unless
it's a non-standard OEM CD)

Second question :-

Are you sure you've got the correct bootdisk file (bootme.exe) for WinMe to
create your floppy disk?
