Problem with Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and opening links
I have a Windows 98SE PC running Norton Internet Security 2005 Spyware
Edition. I am unable to open links from Outlook Express into Internet Explorer. What happens is that a new IE window opens but just sits there- no internet traffic from that windows, not even the homepage. I am also unable to do a right click, open a new Window on a link on a web in IE. Plus I am also unable to find a word on a web page in IE (error message - 'A error has occured in this dialog. Error: 25 - Incompatible version of the RPC Stub'). Also I am unable to download updates via Windows Update in IE. I have tried disabling NIS 2005, re-install IE 6 SP1 - unsuccessful. Have installed Firefox 1.0.7 - opening links into Firebox (now as default browser) from Outlook Express work perfectly so I don't think the problem is in Outlook Express. |

Problem with Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and opening links
First, dump Norton Internet Security:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/nis.htm Hyperlinks don't work: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/48.html RPC stub errors: Fix 1: Microsoft Office 2000 or an Office 2000 Component Is Installed on Your Computer If Office 2000 or or an Office 2000 component is installed on your computer, obtain and install the Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1). For information about how to do so, please visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/default.htm Fix 2: Microsoft Office 2000 or an Office 2000 Component Is Not Installed on Your Computer If Office 2000 or or an Office 2000 component is not installed on your computer, obtain and install the Mcrepair.exe tool. To do so, please visit the following Microsoft Web site, save the Mcrepair.exe file to the desktop, and then run Mcrepair.exe: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...s/mcrepair.exe Restart your computer after you install Mcrepair.exe. Fix 3: Update your MS scripting engine Windows 98, ME, NT: http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...displaylang=en Windows 2000 and XP: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en Error message - incompatible version of RPC Stub (IE6 on NT4) http://support.microsoft.com?scid=kb;EN-US;Q318943 Fix from "Doud": How To: Fix "Error 35: Incompatible Version of the RPC Stub" This error occurs when trying to use the "Find" function with Internet Explorer. It is caused by a fault in v3.50.5041.0 OLEAUT32.DLL. Replace it with an earlier version to fix the problem. Since it is a system file, you will have to replace it using DOS. Copy the older version to C:\. Then go to the start button and restart your computer in MS-DOS Mode. If you have WindowsME, see below on how to do this. Once in DOS Mode, type the following (no quotes): "copy C:\OLEAUT32.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OLEAUT32.DLL". When asked if you want to overwrite, type "Y". It will then say "1 file copied". Then restart your computer (alt+ctrl+del or you can just load windows by typing "win" at the DOS screen). For Windows ME Users: To load WinME in DOS mode, copy "COMMAND.COM" and "IO.sys" from "C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD\" to a formatted floppy disk. Then restart your computer with the floppy disk in the floppy drive and DOS will boot. -- __________________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 http://www.ie-vista.com http://inetexplorer.mvps.org Inetexplorer has changed - for instructions on how to find old URLs, go he http://msmvps.com/spywaresucks/archi.../14/46971.aspx "David Brookes" wrote in message ...
