Default creating Bootable disks

Interested in creating a bootable disk using a jump drive or the memory stick.

Does anyone have any expierence with this.

Basically, if a problem occurs I can resolve some issues with a little less
weight. The notebook I have only has a PCMCIA slot and Memory Stick slot
besides two USB.

Thanks.

could do more than that; you could stuff alot of utilities onto a
jump-drive.

If there is an update for the BIOS.

At the "BIOS Update Disk - InstallShield Wizard" box, click Next. Several
setup boxes will briefly appear as the files are extracted and the notebook
model is identified. As these processes complete, the boxes will close
automatically. The BIOS Update Disk Setup will launch.
At the "Information" window, insert a blank 3½ floppy diskette to the floppy
disk drive (A and click OK.
At the "Creating the CRISIS diskette on drive A:" screen, press ENTER.
WARNING!!: All the data in the floppy disk will be erased.
At the "The CRISIS diskette in drive A: is being formatted" screen, press
ENTER. Please wait as the floppy is formatted.
At the "Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?" prompt, type in a
name (such as BIOSUPD) and press ENTER.
At the "QuickFormat another (Y/N)?" prompt, press the N key and press ENTER.
Press ENTER a second time to continue. Please wait as the BIOS installation
files are copied to the floppy disk.
At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press ENTER. Please wait as
the BIOS installation disk is made bootable.
At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press ENTER.
At the "CRISIS diskette on drive A: successfully created" screen, leave the
floppy disk in the drive and press ENTER.
At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to
restart my computer now" is selected and click Finish. Be sure to leave the
bootable floppy disk with the BIOS files in the floppy drive. As the notebook
restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive. The
PhoenixPhlash Utility will launch.
At the "Phoenix Phlash Utility" box, press the Y key to begin the update
process. Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two
minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the notebook will
automatically turn off.
Eject the bootable BIOS installation disk from the drive.
Turn on the notebook.
At the black "SONY" screen, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup.
At the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press ESC key.
From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Get Default Values" is
highlighted.
Press ENTER.
At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit (Save Changes)" is highlighted and press
ENTER.
At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS is complete.

Rather than the A: ; couldnt I dentify the Memory Stick drive 9F and use a
stick in this instance?

Using an 80 GIG external USB drive and a Bootable CD loaded with utilities
works very well here in troubleshooting. The 80 GIG external USB drive is
used only for software storage and the bootup is with the CD or External USB
Floppy.

Under the specs I see an option for a USB external floppy drive.

When creating a boot disc, how does the sysytem know what type of storage
device is being used?

* not interested in carrying that type of equipment around

dunno... there's probably a blurb on USB specs which includes how it
tells if a bootable device is connected.

Good morning, Rick.

When you create a bootable disk and its asking for the storage area, wouldnt
that complete it?
