Default Windows98SE computer with broadband will go offline after a while

I've sort of got used to restarting the computer as it's not so frequent
now, but just wanna ask again to see if there's anything I can do to prevent
the computer from dropping offline.

The only way to prevent dropping the signal for the connection is to find the
cause. The cause can be in the cable anywhere between the ISP and modem, in the
modem or in the connection configuration. Since you say "it's not so frequent"
I would put the blame on the modem to the ISP. When ATT was my ISP before being
bought out by Comcast, I had the modem replaced 3 times before the connection
remained all the time without intermittent dropouts.
