MPREXE.EXE error during startup
G'Day All,
I am an Xp user with little knowledge of ME. I am trying to help a neighbour. She has experienced a number of slightly different errors with MPREXE.EXE and KERNEL32.DLL. These errors occurred during start-up. Most said "MPREXE.EXE has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL", and a few have said "...has caused an invalid page fault in ...". When I first became involved the system would start in neither Normal nor Safe Mode. I have renamed, and replaced from the CD, the following: USER32.DLL GDI32.DLL WINMM.DLL KERNEL32.DLL and MPREXE.EXE The file CMAPIENG.VXD does not appear to be on the system. The system now starts fine in Safe Mode, but the error still occurs during start-up, a few seconds after the login dialog appears Currently when the error appears, she can move the dialog to the side of the screen, enter her password and continue. This strategy has enabled her to back up her documents, photos etc, although she can NOT access the Internet. I would appreciate any advice on how to fix it once and for all. -- Regards, Pat Garard Melbourne, Australia _______________________ |

MPREXE.EXE error during startup
Believe me - you really don't want the CMAPIENG file - it's part of an
ancient version for McAfee and should have been consigned to the scrapheap long ago. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;275003 I would recommend removing the rest of the McAfee application (if it's still there) for the time being If the system is booting OK in Safe Mode, but not in Normal Mode, it would imply that there are driver problems - try this Reboot to Safe Mode Open Device Manager Remove ALL error-flagged devices Remove ALL instances of duplicated devices (except those in the System Devices branch - post back with a list of those!) Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers - hopefully curing your problem. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Pat Garard" apgarardATbigpondDOTnetDOTau wrote in message ...
