Setting up 98SE and XP on same pc
Please read carefully through the description in the Knowledgebase article I
referred you to, and then if there are any additional questions such as whether the version of XP that you are using makes a difference there are people in the XP newsgroups who have the appropriate experience. I have never used XP Home, but I understand it is restricted in a number of areas. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "FriscoSlim" wrote in message ... I forgot to mention that the XP is an XP Home Edition Upgrade. Does this make a differance as to how I should set up my pc? I already have the 98SE on disk drive C. I thought I could simply put the XP on drive D. How do I proceed? Thank you in advance. -- Ole School from Frisco "Jeff Richards" wrote: You should ask this question in an XP newsgroup. Windows 98 does not have any facility for selecting the operating system to run at startup time, but XP does. I believe that the process simply involves answering a prompt at the time of installing XP, when you are asked about whether or not you want to retain the existing operating system, and where you want to install the new operating system. There's some information he http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306559 How to create a multiple-boot system in Windows XP Note that there is another option that may be more suitable. You can install XP as your only operating system and then run Windows 98 in a virtual machine. It will probably run a bit slower than if you booted direct to W98, but you will not need to reboot if you want to switch from one to the other - you simply boot XP all the time, then run W98 when you need it, and switch between the two like you switch between any other application. See, for instance: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...c/default.mspx Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "FriscoSlim" wrote in message news -- Ole School from Frisco I have installed 98SE on 13 GB C drive. I would like to also install XP on my 80GB D drive. How do I do it so that I have the option of using either system when I turn on my computer? I have been told other people have more than one OS on their pc. |

When you go to install XP on your second drive... a boot manager will be setup by default. Your system will automatically be set up to dual boot. Just be sure to install XP on your *second* drive... so follow the prompts carefully. |

Setting up 98SE and XP on same pc
| I have
| never used XP Home, but I understand it is restricted in a number of areas. No cpu cooling ( like in Win2000 ) except when it forces user to activate. Files search cannot work. Defrag is not thorough. Does not allow copying of some of its files. I thought I could simply put the XP on drive D. How do I proceed? I can't believe he needs advice on this. |
