Troubleshooting MS-DOS Compatibility Mode on Hard Disks

For the problem with the CD drive, you will need to provide much more
detail, including what you've tried so far, when did it last work, what
happened when it stopped working, what type of drive it is and how it's
connected.

If the problem persists after formatting, there may be a master boot
record virus. Go to
http://www.invircible.com/iv_tools.php#Ivinit and download "ivinit.exe"
to a floppy. Start the affected computer in "Command Prompt", insert
the floppy, type "a:\ivinit.exe" and press "Enter". Don't forget to remove
the floppy before restarting.
