Default please help me with dvd and cd info

Hi all
I am going to buy a new computer this week. My old one has a cd rom drive
and a cd burner drive. I like having two drives so I can do a direct copy
from cd to cd.
But on my new one I would like to get a dvd drive also.
What do I need?
I am so confused.
A dvd burner and a cd burner? A cd drive and a dvd burner?
A dvd drive and a cd burner?
Please help I want to have the ability to be able to do anything that I
might wnat to do.
Thanks in advance

What you buy depends very much on what you want to do. To read DVDs you
will need to have at least one of the drives able to read DVDs. If you
want to write DVDs then you need a DVD burner. DVD drives can also read
CDs, DVD burners can also burn CDs.

At the very least I would suggest you get a DVD reader and a CD writer.
Remember that DVD media can be used for more than just creating DVDs to
play in a DVD player. For example they can be used for backup and storage
just like CDs but with more than six times the capacity (single layer DVD)
or even 11 times the capacity (double layer). Which model and what speeds
to buy depends to some extent on your budget.

probably get the new PC with a cd-rw and DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo if you don't
plan burning DVD's. otherwise get a DVD burner.

Most new computers probably only come with one 'optical disk' drive i.e.
these days it would be a DVD burner, which can read/play/burn DVD's,
read/play/burn CD-R's and CDR/RW's.
