Default "Favorites" for Internet Explorer quit on me

After several years of working, my Internet Explorer "Favorite" links no
longer connect my Internet Explorer to the desired website. The "Internet
Shortcuts" are still there, but only work when copied and pasted into the
Internet Explorer Address window (plus "Enter"). Norton Disk Doctor and
Norton Win Doctor indicate no complaints.

I have seen this error come up once, and not sure if it is directly related
the problem:

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: browseui.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2800.1106 Offset: 0004d66a
