Default Need advise

Good Afternoon:Can I setup microsoft office only from a windows 2000 CD? Now
this CD was an original Compaq 2000 setup. I have a laptop that did not come
with office; just Windows XP pro! Can I load just the office from the 2000
CD? if so what do I need to do? Please explain. Thanks

If the CD is an Office CD then maybe you can however if it is what is
called an OEM CD then legally no as the application is "bound" to the PC
on which it was originally installed even if that PC no longer exists.
Tough I know but those are the terms and why OEM software supplied with a
new PC is cheaper than retail copies bought from Microsoft which can be
moved from PC to PC. If however the CD is a recovery CD or similar
containing an image of the system as supplied when first bought and
therefore containing both Win2K and Office 2000 then it is unlikely that
it can be used to install just Office 2000 on another system.

Office does not come on a Win2000 CD, so if Office and Win2000 is on the
same CD, you have a special CD that came with the Compaq and included
everything (though I find it difficult to believe that Office and Win2K
would fit on the same CD.) If that is the case, you definitely have no
legitimate license to install that copy of Office on any other machine.
Whether it is technically feasible is even in doubt, but...

Can you please describe the CD and it's contents in more detail? What are
the main folders on the CD?
