Default Problem with Ethernet Driver for PCI Ethernet NIC

I have problem with PCI Ethernet NIC: at turn my computer on, I got
Windows wizard manager prompt to install new driver for PCI Ethernet
NIC:

"This wizard searches for new drivers for Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI
Ethernet NIC".

So windows detected new network card. I've tried to investigate
problem, and one possible reason is that driver for my network card was
damaged.

I decided reinstall driver and deleted it: Network - Configuration tab
- Remove "Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet NIC" But this deleted also
the two other components: Client for Microsoft Networks and TCP/TP.

Then I tried reinstall component: in Network window, click 'Add' -
'Select network component Type' - 'Adapter' - select 'Realtek
RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet NIC' adapter and double clicked on.
This action add also two other network components, Client for Microsoft
Networks and TCP/TP.

Then I checked 'Device Manager' and see that Network adapeters have
problem:

http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4493/missingcm4.jpg

So where I can get Ethernet Driver? I have no Ethernet driver driver
diskette.

Then, how to test all devices, all files restored properly?

If your ethernet circuitry is built into the
motherboard, its drivers should be on the
setup CD supplies for the motherboard.

Default Problem with Ethernet Driver for PCI Ethernet NIC

First, click Start Settings Folder Options View tab, and click to enable "Show
All Files" and click OK.
Click Start Find File or Folders, and search the C:\ drive for a file named
NETRTP.INF

If not found, you will have to locate the driver online and download it.

If found, note the location (probably in the Windows\Inf or Windows\Inf\Other
folder).
Restart in SAFE MODE, open Device Manager, expand the "Other" category and remove
everything from it.
Expand the "Network Adapters" category and remove all entries there for the RealTek
card.
Click OK and restart in normal mode.
Windows will detect the RealTek NIC....if it does not find the driver, point it to
the location of the NETRTP.INF file.
You may be prompted to insert your Win98 disc. Follow the prompts and reboot when
done.

If that does not work, or if you do not find NETRTP.INF, look for a disc that came
with your computer or motherboard. The NIC you describe is probably an onboard
(integrated) adapter, and the drivers may be on the mobo disc or at the mobo maker's
web site.....if you know the make and model of the motherboard or computer.

I can't locate drivers at the RealTek site, but have a look he

I find a driver on manufacturers site and got it:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...wnloads=tr ue

It include 3 files: Netrtp5.cat, Netrtp5.inf, Rtl8029.sys

What's not fully clear: should I still restart is SAFE mode and remove all
from "Other" category and from "Network Adapters" category, or can just
follow Windows wizard prompt and install new drivers over? There us also
some diagnostic program 'rset8029.exe' from Realtek to test card under pure
DOS.

1. Unpack these downloads (if necessay) to a
folder you will remember.
2. Remove the card from / System / Device Manager
and reboot.
3. When Win98 detects "new hardware" and prompts
you to instal it, /Browse to the folder wiith Netrtp5.inf.
Reinstallation should then proceed OK.

Yep, that looks like the drivers.

That's the way I would do it....remove all the entries from Safe Mode, then restart
and when Windows detects the NIC, point it to the folder where you have unzipped the
downloaded files. If you trry to install drivers over what is there now, there will
be resource conflicts if the device in the Other category or the existing NIC entry
is using resources required by the new install. There may also be even more entries
when you look in Safe Mode.

You don't need the DOS program.

Followed all this advices and removed two mentioned components, in safe
mode, got even more problems. Now windows don't see Realtek adapter
anymore. When I try add Realtek adapter from "Select network adapters
window", windows does not add anyting: "You have selected a Plug and
Play adapter. Please power off your machine and install the adapter,
then turn your machine again"..
A network configuration window are empty now, no TCP/IP, etc.
Also, when restart PC, it show blue screen error "Invalid VxD dynamic
link call from NDISFILT(01) + 0000448A to device "0028", service 8029.
Your Windows configuration is invalid."
Then, when windows loaded, it it show wizard prompted for "PCI early
non-VGA device".

motherboard is Chaintech CT-6OJV2

Does anybody know is this problem resolvable? Reinstall windows? It
worked fine for years.

Download ftp://202.65.194.18/cn/nic/rset8139(507).zip
Open the file with WinZip and extract its contents to your Windows
folder. Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode, type "rset8139",
press "Enter" and see if you can reconfigure the adapter.

You either have or had Norton Internet Security installed, which is where the file
NDISFILT.VxD comes from. I suggest the first thing you do in trying to resolve the
problem is to uninstall NIS via Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. NIS and the
NDISFLT driver can cause the error you see, when you try to remove the NIC from
Device Manager, as you have done. It can also interfere with reinstalling the
device.

If you had NIS installed but do not any longer, you should reinstall it and then
uninstall it, as it did not correctly remove its driver files. After uninstalling,
search the hard drive and make sure NDISFLT.VxD is gone. First, click Start
Settings Folder Options View tab, and click to enable "Show All Files" and click
OK. The use Start Find Files and Folders to search for the file.

Also, if you have AtGuard installed, uninstall it.

When you removed the NIC and the entries in the Other category from Safe Mode, and
then restarted in normal mode, did Windows detect new hardware, and if so, what did
it detect?

I have finally managed to solve this problem and restore network card.
I have no Norton programs. I did search for 'NDISFILT" file and find that it
belonged to AtGuard firewall.
I 've uninstalled AtGuard program (from SAFE mode). Then restarted PC, with
network cable unplugged.
At reboot, windows detected adapter, but displayed another vers. name
'Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC' though(not 'Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI
Ethernet NIC').
I followed the prompt windows and installed driver files. During
installation, there were shown four error (alerts) messages that "A file
being copied is older than the file currently on your computer. It is
recommended that you keep your existing file." (msnet32.dll, snmpapi.dll,
vip.386, telnet.exe) I always clicked Yes to skip copying the file and keep
the newer version.

Not clear why the current adapter installed is 'Realtek RTL8029 , not AS?
