Default ICS installation.

I am trying to network a 98se and XP machine. The 98se machine has the internet connection.
When i try to install ICS on the 98se machine it asks for files that are on the 98se cd. Then it says there are not found which means the installation cannot install ICS.
The files it asks for are listed here
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q229965
The machines are connected through a wireless network and are sharing files and can communicate with each other.
It is most if not all the files listed in the above web page that it can not find.
If you need anymore info let me know and i will get back.
Thanks in advance.

Is there any way you could use the XP for ICS?
It works much better than 98se.

Default ICS installation.

I bought the computer to put into a loft conversion(for my kid). The cable modem is downstairs and does not have enough wire to put upstairs. In a perfect world i would do this but my kid wont let me.
Should ICS work on 98se? Does it work on 98se?
or is there a free program that wil do it? (Im out of money buying the computer)

Yep, that's an easy one. If your CD is not a retail Windows 98 CD (or at
least an OEM CD from Microsoft) the files won't be on it. You'll either
have to beg/borrow/buy one, or check your hard drive for the Windows Setup
files (several dozen files whose names start with WIN98 and end with the
letters CAB).

Default ICS installation.

If it is a true OEM CD (has the Microsoft logo on it, not the Dell logo, and
is not a "system restore" CD) you should be able to insert it when asked for
the missing files.

Ok. Its a dell system restore cd for windows 98 secound edition.
The computer had windows 98 secound edition on it.
Doesnt that mean i should have a full os and not have to buy another cd?
This doesn't look very promising!
How much is the cd? and where can i get it?

Default ICS installation.

Did you check your hard drive for the Windows Setup files? If they are
there (and on many OEM systems they are) you can install the missing files
from there.

Ok. Its a dell system restore cd for windows 98 secound edition.
The computer had windows 98 secound edition on it.
Doesnt that mean i should have a full os and not have to buy another cd?
This doesn't look very promising!
How much is the cd? and where can i get it?

If it is a true OEM CD (has the Microsoft logo on it, not the Dell logo,

and
is not a "system restore" CD) you should be able to insert it when asked

for
the missing files.

I have an oem 98se disk from dell. So i take its on there somewhere.??

"Richard G. Harper" wrote:

Yep, that's an easy one. If your CD is not a retail Windows 98 CD

(or
at
least an OEM CD from Microsoft) the files won't be on it. You'll

either
have to beg/borrow/buy one, or check your hard drive for the Windows

Setup
files (several dozen files whose names start with WIN98 and end with

the
letters CAB).

I bought the computer to put into a loft conversion(for my

kid).
The
cable
modem is downstairs and does not have enough wire to put

upstairs.
In a
perfect world i would do this but my kid wont let me.
Should ICS work on 98se? Does it work on 98se?
or is there a free program that wil do it? (Im out of money

buying
the
computer)

I am trying to network a 98se and XP machine. The 98se

has

When i try to install ICS on the 98se machine it asks for

files
that
are on the 98se cd. Then it says there are not found which means

the
installation cannot install ICS.
The files it asks for are listed here

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q229965
The machines are connected through a wireless network and

are
sharing
files and can communicate with each other.
It is most if not all the files listed in the above web

page
that
it
can not find.
If you need anymore info let me know and i will get back.
Thanks in advance.

Is there any way you could use the XP for ICS?
It works much better than 98se.
