Default anti-virus software

Is there any good free anti-virus software available, to download? If not,
guess I'll just renew the McAffee, that I have now.

Yes. I just installed AVG from Grissoft and it works great!! Found it over at
www.cnet.com. Here is the download site. I had Mcafee but it kept crashing my
computer so like you I went searching for a free virus scan. So far no
problems and my computer is really much faster now.

I concur with Rick T and Peter.
AVG from Grisoft may be the best completely free AV tool, just now.
The latest version runs just fine here under WinME.
No interference with System Restore.

Note that Computer Associates has extended their one year free trial, under
Win9X, for the eTrust Armor bundle of the EZ AV and personal firewall.
CA's firewall is a rebranded version of Zone Labs Zone Alarm. You can
obtain the bundle at the MS Win Updates site, using the "Protect your PC"
icon in the upper right of the home page. This is an exceptionally good
value, IMO.

FWIW, IMO, EOD32 may be the best AV tool, at the moment.

I use AVG (www.grisoft.com). It can be used as resident
(always active) or "on demand" (my preference) so nothing run at
startup. It has email scanning and did I mention, it's free ??

Thanks for advice to install the AVG free, antivirus software. It installed
easily and seems to be working fine. I did have to disable the e-mail
scanner though, because of the error message that my on line service had a
secure port. I don't think it matters though, because the on line service
does virus scans on all the e-mail. I don't think McAffee scanned the
e-mail either. Thanks again for your help.
