I have found a lot of neat toys require Windows XP, or later. I help a
couple of people to keep Windows ME computers running, and it is getting
ever harder to do it, for lack of decent, current tools.

I expect it will be the same with Windows XP after six years pass.

XP will be supported for another 5 years yet - so it'll be at least 2017
before things get as bad for it as they are for Win9x now
By that time we'll probably be on Windows Galactica (or Win 11)

I've already got "Win 11". Well, "X11" windows (in Linux).

Default Antispyware, virus protection and other alike programs

Hello:

I'm a bit confused. I went to the SUPERAntiSpyware web site and it looked to
me as if Win 98/ME were still supported.

The SUPERAntiSpyware product information page reads:
"Systems Requirements: Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista or Windows
2003"
(See: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispyware.html .)

The SUPERAntiSpyware page at Download.com reads:
"Operating system: Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Me, Windows XP,
Windows 2000, Windows 98"
"Date added: September 03, 2009"
(See:
http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSp...html?tag=mncol
..)

Where did you find that SUPERAntiSpyware for Win 98/ME were no longer
supported?

Thanks,
Jerry

I couldn't find nothing either and Avast will also NOT be discontinued.
Got it 'right from the horses mouth'.

Hello,
We no longer provide support for 98/me as they are over 10 years old - you
can use our previous 4.24 version and just do definition updates.

Hello,
There are no new technology advancements for 98 systems - the definitions
are updated - you can install the copy on any new computer you acquire and
it will allow it to be updated.

you can use our previous 4.24 version and just do definition updates.

Says it all. Definition updates will continue to be available to those
running SuperAntiSpyware on Win Me. Just no program updates or new
features.

Hello Harry:

Where did you get this information? (I'm not saying that you're wrong, just
that I'd like to see it also.)

I couldn't find any info or the thread in the vista.geberal group.

Thanks,
Jerry

In the vista.general group I was told otherwise that it will be continued
and referring to the Avast website, which I didn't check out myself yet.
Go figure...

I contacted Avast Support directly via email and they assured me that it
will Not be discontinued for neither Windows Vista nor ME and information to
the contrary is false.
Let me know if you need to see their answer, I will have to copy and paste
it for you.

Harry.
