It is really not a matter of 'handling'....more a matter of intelligent
decision making. I made the decision to move to Texas where 'cold' is when
there is a little frost on the grass in the morning.....early morning.
Heck, I just mowed the lawn a few days ago and my pear trees are budding.
Five winters in Sault Ste. Marie was enough to convince me that I didn't
want to retire in the arctic or any semblance thereof. No doubt, Toronto
would be warmer if the Figgs lived elsewhere.

"we breed excellent hockey players"...........we breed beef cattle......with
contented cows, NOT mad ones. bwa ha, yourself.

ROFL!! Glad to see you Merkins get a taste of what it is like to live in
the real world!! We is tough up here!! Exactly 10 years ago, the Mayor
of Toronto called in the Armed Forces to dig Toronto out!! He got a lot
of ribbing, but damn, we have had the same weather as both then and what
you are having.

I think the Loon is pretty cold down there in Texas as well. Now you know
why we breed excellent hockey players. Pansy Yanks couldn't handle our
weather.....bwa ha ha!!

Can't you keep this crap up there? Maybe we need a northern security
wall too! Damned Alberta sent us another 5" of snow (we had over 33" in
the month of December alone) last night and sub-zero temperatures.
It's -10ºF right now and tomorrow's high is supposed to be -3ºF and low
below -20ºF with another 3-6" of the white stuff. I've got no room for
my plow guy to put anymore!!!

Make sure you have SP1 with IE6. Also, try the Microsoft IE Repair
Tool
available through the Control Panel. add remove (IE6) -remove- then
choose

Looks a lot like a problem with the download manager, Norm.
As suggested, System Restore may be your best bet.

Harry.

norm, it might just be that "The requested site is either unavailable or
cannot be found" g

Is the site where you are trying to download files from the ONLY site where
you have this problem or are you having problems on ALL sites? Could you
please share the url of the offending site so that we might be able to check
for ourselves.

Try the following url - which has just worked for me - it is a 'zipped' file
for the Nokia Test Pattern Generator (monitor/screen Test Card) utility. You
don't have to install it (although its a very handy utility) if you don't
want to. Just see if it will attempt to download and save. Tell us how far
you get with the (download) exercise and at what point it fails.
http://download.softpedia.com/dl/576.../Nokiaver2.zip

If you want to know more about the utility, see :-
http://www.softpedia.com/progScreens...hot-34390.html

NB - I have no connection with Nokia

Good luck

Mart

Mart,
I hae this problem regardless of which site I'm on. Not able to
download anywhere. The download box comes up the files fly from one folder
to another and within a few seconds I get the same message that site is busy
or not found. I have tried system restore and that didn't work either.

I'm sure you missed my post...

Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free:
http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html

If you can't download using the above link, try this direct download:
http://downloads.superantispyware.co...ntiSpyware.exe

Right-click and Save as...

Install, launch, update and run a full system scan, cleaning everything it
finds.

Reboot and test.

Good luck,

Zee

P.S.
Eventually download SAS using another computer.

Now that Norm has confirmed a few previously unanswered points - and
interestingly, Heirloom also mentioned HOSTS, alluding to a similar
suggestion of 'malware' issues - I would concur with your suggestion Zee, of
downloading the SUPERAntiSpyware file to another computer and transferring
it across to his 'faulty' one, then installing a running it to scan for
spyware etc. Also wonder that if not malware, then his security settings
might be set a bit too high on IE - using Corday's logic - although Norm
confirms reverting to earlier registry without success. Not much else left.

Can't you use another PC to download SUPERAntiSpyware?

I do feel, as others have also mentioned, that your problem is malware
related.
