Use the delete key. Most icons will be either files or shortcuts to files
but very occasionally you may come across an icon that is not a file but
is instead what is referred to as a "Namespace" object in which case you
will probably have to remove the entry by editing the registry. Note
however that the latter are rarely encountered other than for the likes of
My Computer and My Documents etc. and there are other ways of removing
these particular objects.

Mike, I have an Icon from an old virus scan showing in control panel that I
cannot delete.

Is there somewhere else I could locate it? Thanks.

shoulda been on the AV's "things to do" list when you Uninstalled it.
You could dig through the registry and take it out.

Rick, I had contacted McAfee regarding another issue, however, when I
uninstalled through add/remove. There were icons left as well.

I went through the registry and removed Network Associates and Mcafee as
much as I could locate.

The issue regarding the item "scan for virus" has come up again. Ill have to
review the posts on how to remove this. Seem to recall discussion regarding
this previously.

Any event, where could I start in registry.

Ive done all sorts of registry cleaner and still item appears. Thanks.

Looked and cannot locate individual icons that would show in control panel
from the registry.

I see control panel; not sure where to look to address this issue?
