screen flicker in direct draw test

I have installed a few games in the past off the PC World disks, and run them
without a problem. Then, when i reinstalled a game i haven't played for ages
and run it, The game plays ok but the screen flickers hard out. It also seems
to do it with a couple of other games ive tried to run. I when't into the
Direct X diagnostic tool and run that, when i get to the "Test Direct Draw to
draw in fullscreen test" the box that I'm ment to see is there, but it
flickers hard out too. I have a G-Force 2, 32meg Graphic card with the latest
driver. I have Direct X version 9c. Please what can i do? Are there any other
drivers i have to update? Thanks

ps...ive tried lowering my display from "best" to "fastest" but this has no
effect either,
