Default horizontal shadows on monitor

My monitor suddenly developed horiz. shadows and the
display is lighter. I bought a new monitor and it is the
same. It is obviously a computer prob. How can I fix it?
I have flat screen monitor.

Default horizontal shadows on monitor

Hi Jo,

Hold the Ctrl key down at system bootup and enter
Safe Mode. Does the problem still exist?

Default horizontal shadows on monitor

I've had the same problem for a few days myself. Came out
of nowhere. I know it's not a monitor problem..tried
another monitor..same thing.

What is the ctrl key to Safe Mode supposed to do to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated. Can't seem to get tech
support ANYWHERE with out spending money or talking to an
automated, unhelpful system.

Thanks,
Leslie

Hi Jo,

This would indicates a hardware problem.
I would first check the cable that connects the monitor
to the video card. If that checks out OK, the video card
or onboard video chip is going bad.

Accessing safe mode doesn't fix it - it tells you whether the problem is
related to the display drivers or the display mode.

By 'horizontal shadows' do you mean that the area immediately to the right
of a dark vertical line is darker than it should be? Or are you referring
to horizontal bands of shadowing? If they are bands, do they move up and
down the screen, or do they seem to be related to the brightness and
darkness of the current display? Are you using a LCD or CRT monitor?

Default horizontal shadows on monitor

I am using an LCD monitor. THe shadows are stationary
bands that correspond to icons, text, etc. and extend the
entire width of the screen. They are light gray, but the
entire screen is less bright except for the bright colors
such as for McAfee icon and they are irridescent. In my
settings for display, the analog monitor is checked and the
digital flat screen cannot be "checked". Is the flat
screen LCD digital?
Many thanks,
JO

The flat screen is LCD digital, and installing the correct monitor drivers
might make a difference. However, it sounds more like a video adapter card
or video adapter cable problem. If you are using a long cable, replace it
with the shortest one possible. If you can substitute a different video
adapter card, then try it. What adjustment is there on the monitor for
different video signal standards? What happened when you tried safe mode?
