installing MS Query tool

This was posted on Saturday to alt.windows98.

And again I shake my head and ask why people get off their ass and do a
little bit of leg-work to figure out what the most USEFUL newsgroup to
post to (which in this case because of a lack of traffic, is not
alt.windows98).

But I highly doubt that anyone here has much (or any) experience with
Office 2k.

For example, say I want to post a question or comment about "widgets".
Let's say that I'm not already reading groups pertaining to widgets, so
offhand I won't know what groups exist that talk about or focus on
widgets.

In my usenet client (netscape communicator 4.78) I'll right-click on the
NNTP server I'm using and select "subscribe to new newsgroup". I'll
click on the "search" tab and enter a keyword - in this case "widgets".
I will then get a list of all newsgroups containing the word "widgets".

I'll scroll through the list and put a checkmark beside any of them that
look relevant, then hit OK. The new groups will be added to the end of
my list of currently-subscribed groups. I will then click on each group
to have my reader download the list of headers that the server has for
those groups. I will remove any group that has no posts.

Of those groups that are left, some might have a handful of posts, some
will have dozens of posts. Because the server I use only allows
cross-posting to (at most) 3 groups, if my short-list of widget groups
exceeds 3 then I'll have to decide if I want to make multiple posts of
my question and cross-post them across those groups (crossposting to 3
at a time).

If my group-name keyword search doesn't result in any useful results, I
will resort to the google-groups search interface and try to determine
what could be useful groups based on the search results. I'll then add
those groups to my netscape subscription list.

That's the strategy I use to post a question (or comment, etc) to groups
that I don't regularly follow. If the topic is sufficiently important
to me, I'll keep those new groups in my subscribed list for an extended
period of time (so I can easily see any replies) or just see what else
is posted that I might be interested in. If over time I find that I've
lost interest in the new groups, I'll remove them from my subscribed
list.

I used to use NC 4.78 on my Win98 Desktop, but then, over time, I
upgraded to Mozilla Suite and then (when Mozilla decided to go to
Firefox (browser) and Thunderbird (Mail & News)), a group of individuals
(the SeaMonkey Council), with the support of Mozilla Corp, continued the
Suite development as SeaMonkey Suite, which is currently upto version
2.8, although only versions up to version 1.1.19 are usable on Win98.

SM ver 1.1.19, which is still old, would be much more up to date than NC
4.78

Something I've been meaning to do was try out the last version 4.x of
Netscape Communicator (4.8) which was released in 2002.

And what exactly do you get with a more "up-to-date" usenet client?

I'll tell you - nothing.

I think the last version of Netscape suite that had a separate
e-mail/usenet client was version 6 or 7. That's probably the highest or
most recent usenet client I'd ever be willing to try or use.

Yes, please upload the full Office 2k premium SR1 cd if you can. I don't
know where the MsQuery component was stored, on a separate disk or in main
package. I also tried to experiment with the installer that I had, pointing
path to the msi file, but it fails as as required files missing.

I suppose it all depends on what you want to do, and where you want to go!!

I found the migration from NC 4.78 to Mozilla Suite to SeaMonkey Suite
all pretty uneventful. Just a matter of being up-to-date!

winzip and decompress the first file (part1). This will create the
entire directory structure of disk 1 of the office 2000 premium sr1.

Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Access and FrontPage.

The rar archive is password protected. The password is "a" (no quotes).

Enjoy.
