Default Second Hardrive

Hi,
New to this so please excuse me if I ask silly questions.
I just installed a second hard drive into my Gtaeway computer which is
running 98SE. It is a Samsung 80Gig drive. I did the partitioning and format
and I only got 32 gig.
I was told that the BIOS may not support the 80Gig drive so I contacted
Gateway and got instructions on flashing the BIOS. I did that and still only
get 32Gig from the second drive.
Any other issue I should be aware of or can try to get the full 80 Gig out
of the drive.

1. See if the jumper of Samsung 80GB drive is set in position something like
"32GB Limit"

2. See MS KB article
"Fdisk Does Not Recognize Full Size of Disks Larger than 64 GB"

Did you remove the partition you previously created?

Yes I did delete the first partition. I just remembered something that I did
differently. When I originally partitioned the 80GB "D" drive I used a floppy
boot disk. Afterflashing the BIOS I used fdisk from my "C" drive to redo the
partition. Could that be the problem ? When I get home this afternoon I may
try to redo the partition from the boot floppy.

No, the only jumper on the drive is for the salve option. I replied to Lil'
Dave on a possible problem area. I will try it again later
Thanks, Omer

After you flashed your BIOS, did you enter the BIOS setup program and check
to make sure it was set for the proper geometry (Cylinders Heads & Sectors),
or set to AUTO detect, if your board supports it?

No, I'm not aware of this setting. What am I looking for ? Under which
category (tab) is it listed ?
Thanks for your help

When your computer first starts, a keypress of "DEL" or "INS" or "ESC" or
"CTL-S", or some other simple key sequence will stop your computer from
starting and allow you to enter your BIOS setup program - check your user's
guide.

Once you get into that, you can check under STANDARD or DISK SETUP or AUTO
DETECT or something similar so your hard drive's actual size can be detected
and stored in CMOS.

Watch your boot screen and it will tell you which key to press to enter
setup (the BIOS). You will just have to look around once you get in as
BIOSes are not all configured the same.

Ok thank you. I get into the Bios but cannot tell if I am set up for I
don't see anything about (cylinder, heads, sectors).
Anything else ? I'm lost ?
