after saving some of my email attachments to a new folder,
i am now unable to open them as they come up as an EML
TYPE file, is it possible to change to a program that can
open them ?

Are you sure you are saving the attachment, not the message?

What are these attachments? If you can identify the type (such as asking
the person who sent them to you) then you can change the filename extension
to the correct type and then open them using the correct application for
that file type. If the person sending them doesn't know what they are then
they should be deleted.

However, it's quite likely that they really are EML files. They should open
in your e-mail reader, but there is usually no need to open files of this
type unless you are doing something like transferring individual mail
messages from one system to another. EML files delivered as an attachment
may indicate a worm, in which case opening them is dangerous.

The original problem started when I had to re-install
outlook express. Allthe emails I had saved in a new file,
all came up withh the windows icon, which, on trying to
open , came up with "OPEN WITH" and I selected EXPLORER.
They all now have the computer icon which I am unable to
open.

You could ask in an Outlook Express Newsgroup about how to open these files
in OE, and how to re-establish OE as the default application to open these
files with. Or, you might ask about how to import the whole of the old mail
folder in one procedure. As opening this sort of file is not usually
necessary, a typical OE installation doesn't open these files by default.
