| I'm not sure why this post didn't come through until today ...

It's been here since the 5th. Have you got an "OE, Tools menu, Message
Rule" that misbehaves?

|
| Anyhow, the "Restart" instead of "Shut Down" problem was
| fixed by replacing ACPI BIOS with PnP BIOS (fail safe).
| For details, see my earlier post (dated 11/9/2004 3:12pm).

I saw that. It's really beyond my experience. I am "Advanced
Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)", but IT has an exclamation
(!). However, as there is no Resource Conflict involved, I'm told to let
it be by Windows Help. All the same, some day I may try as you did,
but-- I'm shutting down/restarting faily well enough. (Can't say it's
100%. If you turn out to be 100% now, please let me know. You & Shep!)

|
| The following issues remain:
| - duplicate "PCI bus" with an exclamation mark (but system works fine)

Duplicates. The normal suggested solution is to Remove both in Safe
Mode. One may then drop off. However, I wouldn't fool with my own PCI
Bus without doing a fresh full system backup first.

Terhune has often posted a true devastation of devices in Device
Manager. I have it in my "Keepers", but I hesitate to pass it on,-- &
NOT just because he has forbid me to mention his name.

| - system does not wait for the user to turn off the computer on "Shut
Down"

I don't understand. Mine shuts itself off. Then, all I need do is turn
off the monitor & speakers.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
PCR
