CD Rom drive belt
My friend has an older computer, Win 98, with a Lite-On Cd rom with a belt
drive. So the drawer quit opening and after an inspection I found the belt was shot. Did you ever try to locate that part? Of course the answer would be no, for none of you guy or gals would stoop so low as to even a own a computer that old. A Packard Bell with 8.4 G hard drive. lol. That belt was darn small and I looked around the internet with no luck and called a couple of places. They said put in a new one. So I ordered a newer one and while waiting for it to come I thought that belt looked very interesting. It was about 1 inch in diameter. Where did I see something like that? Then I remembered. Last year I changed the o-rings in my kitchen faucet. You know the one that swings from one side to the other. I had gone to our local hardware store where they sell these and the clerk reached in their o-ring assortment and said this is what you need. Well a 1/16" x 1-1/16th" diameter ring was a perfect fit and you can reach through the drawer to replace it. It works fine and no need to diassemble anything. (which I did). Anyone want to buy a new CD rom drive? Kelly |

When the same thing happened to one of my CD-ROM drives many years ago I used a small rubber band (about 1" dia) which I found in my desk draw. Worked fine. |
