Default back to factory new now modem wont work

i used boot disk to bring pc to factory new. however now my modem wont work.
i recv check interrupt NOTICE AND WHEN TRY TO ACCESS MORE INFO IN MODEM /
CONTROL PANEL, STATES CHECK ITTERUPT, MODEM PLUGGED IN, ETC.... i have recvd
new drivers from compaq for pc tel micro modem. when install via dos app, as
directed i have ! for pci device. when i try to install w/ auto detect it
does not detect modem. when manually install get Fatal exception error, 0028:
c1810a9e vxd ptvcd(04) + 000006e. the currect irq for pci is set to 4. the
ptvcd vxd is a file in driver set from compaq.

i have number of different attempts in how to install. PLEASE PLEASE ANY
HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED. COMPAQ PRESARIO 5441
