Default my computer crashed and I need to back up files and restore them h

My computer crashed and I have found out that the operating system is
corrupted. I have never backed up my computer and I am not really sure how
to do it. Plus I am not sure how to restore it once the operating system is
reinstalled. Please help

If you did not back it up before it crashed, how do your expect to do it
now?
If you have some techie friend, you could put in a second hard drive making
your old hard drive a "slave".
Then reinstall the operating system on the new drive and you should be able
to recover your data from the old drive.
Keep in mind that you will have to reinstall all your programs again.

Now you have learned a valuable lesson. Backup - backup - backup
Windows has a backup program, be it not the best in the world.
The best backup is to copy your personal data to removable drives such as a
ZIP drive, a CD-R or to floppies.
Use two sets of disks, and alternate between them so that if a backup disk
becomes corrupted, you still have a second set.
Store these disk away from the computer so that a fire or theft does not get
them as well as the computer.

How about some specs on your system. Make, Model, and especially, size
of hard drive, and if you know, about how much free space on that drive.
That, and some idea of what kind of personal files you have--lots of
music or other large files?
